A Conversational Agent Framework with Multi-modal Personality Expression

Consistently exhibited personalities are crucial elements of realistic, engaging, and behavior-rich conversational virtual agents. Both nonverbal verbal cues help convey these agents’ unseen psychological states, contributing to our effective communication with them. We introduce a comprehensive framework design agents that express personality through non-verbal behaviors like body movement facial expressions, as well dialogue selection voice transformation. use the OCEAN model, which defines combination five orthogonal factors openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism. The combines existing expression methods novel ones such new algorithms Laban Shape Effort qualities. perform Amazon Mechanical Turk studies analyze how different modalities influence perception agent compare their individual combined effects on each dimension. results indicate personality-based modifications perceived natural, additional modality improves accuracy, best performance achieved when all present. also report some correlations for conscientiousness neuroticism openness extraversion.
